The Long Bar in Raffles Hotel, Singapore is the birthplace of the Singapore Sling cocktail. Pink in colour, the drink was originally designed by Chinese barman, Ngiam Tong Boon, as a ladies drink back in 1915. Inside the bar is cool, with old style fans swaying back and forth from the ceiling, keeping customers cool while they sip their cocktails. However, having a Sling at the Long Bar isn’t cheap. Budget travellers will find it hard to part with the $26 for the drink, which was more than our hostel bed and so after a look around, we were quickly on our way.
